Battlesteads Brings Silver Medal Home To The North East

Battlesteads wins Silver at EnjoyEngland Awards

Battlesteads pub, hotel and restaurant in Wark, near Hexham in Northumberland, picked up a silver award in the Sustainable Tourism category of the 2011 EnjoyEngland Awards for Excellence, which are run by VisitEngland.

Following its Gold award from One North East in October 2010, Battlesteads was put forward to the national awards against eight others in the Sustainable Tourism category. The winners were announced at a gala ceremony in Birmingham.

The prestigious awards, currently in their 22nd year, celebrate the very best the country has to offer. Regional winners are rigorously assessed by independent assessors and judged by a specially selected board of tourism industry experts including previous winners and highly regarded travel writers.

Judges commended Battlesteads owners Richard and Dee Slade for “Showing the way for pubs and inns,” and for using "Innovative ideas in all aspects of the business". They also recognised that Battlesteads has “A strong sustainable pedigree; environmental awareness is embedded in the culture."

Richard and Dee and the managers from Battlesteads all attended the awards ceremony to hear the announcement of winners and receive their certificate from Lady Penelope Cobham, Chairman of VisitEngland.
