"A WEEKEND AT THE RACES"

"What can I say? Fantastic!!! A wonderful weekend! The location is fab, the garden is beautiful and lovely and quiet! The hotel offers a very well kept range of real ales. The food was amazing! Eating there is a MUST! All the food was very well cooked and well presented, gresh herbs and veg from the garden and locally sourced produce! I would paricularly recommend the liquorice and toffee cheescake (all the deserts are home made). Always plenty of warm and friendly staff resulting in excellent service. despite a particularly busy saturday night... "

"Arrived Jan 5th 2011. Read about it in the Good Pub Guide as we traveled from Edinburgh to Fowey, Cornwall. Wanted to see Hadrian's Wall and fortifications. The rooms were superb, clean, bright, good showers (plural), the detail amazing - walkers had places to put muddy boots in an otherwise immaculate room."

"A real find in a lovely location with beautiful gardens, ideal for exploring Hadrians Wall and the stunning countryside. A warm welcome from helpful staff. Restaurant dinner offers locally sourced selection and breakfast choice very good too. Room & bed comfortable with some nice add ons.All in all excellent value and a place for a definite revisit."

"We stayed 5 nights here while walking and sightseeing in the area. Dinners were excellent with a good choice of locally sourced food, much of which is grown in the hotel's own gardens and polytunnels. Breakfasts were also very good. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was spotless with a very comfortable bed. The hotel owners set high standards and it really shows. Strongly recommended."

"I browsed the internet for a hotel that gave easy access to Hadrians Wall and forts, Kielder Forest and the Borders. This one met all criteria, in spades.
Lovely village setting, extremely friendly hosts and staff. and a first class restaurant..."

"3 middle aged couples overnighted after a arduous mountain bike ride around Kielder water. We're not used to cycling. Really enjoyed our nights stay"

"Cycling the Hadrian Way with four friends we took a 5 mile detour north of Hadrian's Wall to stay at Battlesteads at Wark. Recently refurbished the rooms were very well appointed and comfortable. The evening meal was delicious with much of the herbs & vegetables grown by the hotel on their land immediately behind the building. After breakfast we were given a tour of the green facilities (boiler) and the vegetable garden before we set off to complete the ride to Newcastle. "
