Details
Join us for an interactive introduction to stargazing under the twinkling stars of the skies of Northumberland on the edge of the largest expanse of protected dark skies in Europe – the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park.
Our team will take you on a journey from the surface of the earth, to our moon, through the solar system and beyond the milky way and if you have any particular object in the night sky you'd like to see then let us know and we'll help you find it using our telescopes.
Depending on the weather, there will be a initial laser tour of the night sky, followed by a guided binocular tour of some easy-to-find objects. Then you'll get to use our telescopes and delve into the depths of the cosmos. If the weather isn't kind to us then an introduction to stargazing and star-hopping will take place in the warm and cosy learning room using a variety of accessible technologies. Whatever the weather, you'll leave with a renewed sense of wonder about the universe and the ability to find and identify some interesting night sky objects.
During the winter months the observatory warm room is kept cosy and with hot drinks available all year round; this simply is the best and most comfortable way to be introduced to the dark starry skies of Northumberland and the universe beyond.
As of yet, we're unable to control the weather, so observing the skies can only go ahead if it's clear but you'll be pleased to know that all events go ahead in any weather conditions.
