Battlesteads Lodges

Battlesteads Eco-Lodges

Known for its green ethos, Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant in Wark, near Hexham is proud to announce the launch of five new, luxury and environmentally friendly timber lodges. The lodges, developed by Swift Timber Homes, all use sustainable wood manufactured in nearby Durham, under floor heating fed from the hotels biomass boiler and are furnished and decorated using local services.

The new lodges add to the hotels 17-ensuite bedrooms and are all suitable for double or twin occupancy with a family element being added within the next few months. They boost the hotel’s dog friendly accommodation and provide an additional wheelchair accessible option for guests in one of the lodges.

Opened for business in December 2014, the lodges are priced at £165 per night for bed and breakfast based on two people sharing.

Commenting on the hotel’s latest eco-friendly extension, Richard Slade, owner of Battlesteads says:

"Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do here at Battlesteads, so when we decided to extend the hotel we knew we needed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Each lodge is made using sustainable materials that blend into our rural landscape and are in keeping with the green ethos that runs throughout the running of the hotel."

The eco-lodges add to Battlesteads’ ongoing green credentials. Awarded a Platinum level rating in TripAdvisor’s GreenLeaders Programme in 2014, a scheme that helps travellers make greener choices when deciding on a hotel trip, Battlesteads also boasts a Three Star Sustainability Champion status from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), and was previously voted Considerate Hotel of the Year (Considerate Hotelier) and Green Hotel of the Year (Hotel Cateys) in 2011.

The project is supported by a Rural Economy Grant, North East Small Business Growth Fund for which the funds are provided by the Rural Development Programme for England. Defra is the Managing Authority, part financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas.
